Our Responsibility To Each Other Over The Next Four to Eight Years

Friendship is always a sweet responsibility, never an opportunity. Khalil Gibran

Happy Thursday, January 19th, 2017!
It is a beautiful brisk day here in New York. I'm listening to Margaret Whiting in the background sing Some of These Days.

Anyone who knows me that I always have music playing and it's not the angst laden music which seems the norm today. By THIS time tomorrow, we will have a new President. I've spoken about why I don't like him in the past.
That is not what today's blog is about.
I also will not utter his name. This is not about him. It's about us. It is how we move forward. I will not blame him for ALL of the negativity prevalent everywhere. Each of us has to take on that responsibility. Again, we are ALL responsible for what we are putting 'out there'.
I do believe that some people even like to wallow in it. I'm not one of them.  Some of you may see your own  posts and tweets in this blog. I intentionally am not using your name. Please take note I am only showing what you are putting out to the world.
From a TRUE friend:  Good morning friends. With all of the very very strong feelings people are having regarding politics and positions on things, sometimes we delve right into that and forget to greet each other with "Good morning, and have a wonderful day" so......"Good morning and have a wonderful day"....

What you put out into the world will always come back for you.
― Dennis Lehane, Live by Night

When I see Tweets such as this, ' Next week, Thursday (if there's still a world!). We need art right now and I'm very thrilled to share it with...', my thought is you are contributing to that narrative.

I will celebrate the latter part of that tweet. Yes! We need art and ALL of us artists HAVE to share that.

Here is another in response to a photo on Facebook of the Obama's Inauguration: Wish this picture was a preview of tomorrow. I would feel patriotic.
Even though things did not go the way I anticipated, I STILL feel patriotic. I voted. I was very vocal during the entire political process. I will continue to be vocal whenever I see any type of injustice.
I made a decision last week, however, not to post anything political on my social media outlets, unless it pertains to the arts. My blog on Jenifer Hudson is a prime example.
My goal for the next four to eight years is to be the best Richard Skipper I can possibly be. All of us should make it our goal and intention to the BEST we can be. Our future and sanity hangs on this thread.

I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear. - Martin Luther King

Debbie Reynolds: A True Inspiration To Me

Last night, I went with a dear friend to see Singing In The Rain. I was struck by something. When Debbie Reynolds was cast in the film, she was nineteen. She said in her autobiography and in many books that she was not a dancer and yet she became a wonderful dancer. When she got the role of Kathy Seldon, directors Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen did not say, "Don't worry, we'll slack off enough to make you look good." No, SHE rose to the occasion.
Look at all of the artists who came together on that film and others to create great art. If we bond together, we can keep everything great!

Don't spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door. -Coco Chanel

Folks, it IS a done deal. We can spend the next four years constantly complaining or we can focus that energy on KEEPING America great. THAT responsibility lies within each of us and not on the shoulders of our POTUS-elect.
Before the haters come after me, I KNOW what we are up against. I'm not stupid. I'm just not allowing it to consume me.
I can guarantee that all who are reading this have seen far more negative posts today than positive. I would even venture to say that most reading this have probably even posted those. Before you hit the send button, ask yourself...Is this adding to the problem or is it making it better? I know there is a security blanket around those tho share a like-minded attitude. I'm not sure how healthy that is either.
The time in the gutter takes away from the time you can be strutting down the street showing the world the positive contributions you are capable of giving!
Life is so much better when you stop caring about what everyone thinks, and start to actually live for yourself!!

Sit back! A new news cycle is about to begin!

  1. Well, Richard -- You have done it again. What did you do? You caused me to think. You caused me to cry. My tears are from hope not from despair. I am an optimist. I believe there are only TWO BASIC HUMAN EMOTIONS from which all others come. Everything that is good, positive and worthwhile, and nourishing comes from LOVE. What is the other emotion? Everything negative, hateful, destructive, snarky and such comes from FEAR. I chose LOVE. xxoo Russ
