Richard Skipper Celebrates January 8th: 2016!

Happy Birthday, Elvis Presley
Anxiety never yet successfully bridged over any chasm.
-Giovanni Ruffini, Italian Writer (1807-1881)

Happy January 8th, 2016!
Today would have been Elvis Presley's 81st Birthday.  Also, a Happy Birthday to Charles Osgood.
Happy Birthday, Shirley Bassey!
Happy Birthday, Annie Hughes!  You truly are an ANGEL in my life and you will never know how I much I LOVE YOU and what you mean to me! Thank you for being YOU AND A TRUE FRIEND!

My Sunday morning guilty pleasure is CBS Sunday Morning. Thank you CBS and Charles Osgood for keeping this tradition going. Some of the best TV around.

It is hard to imagine Elvis Presley as an 81 year old. Although I have seen many Elvis impersonators not far from that age! I believe next to Carol Channing and Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley must be the most impersonated icon of all time. Google Carol Channing
Impersonator and see what pops up!

This is just a quick reminder that the deadline for MAC Awards submissions is this coming Wednesday, January 13! Be sure to get your applications in on time in order to be  eligible! Click here to download the application and all the info you'll need.
Happy Awards season!
I won TWO MAC Awards as Carol Channing (Three nominations)

Every year at this time, many in the entertainment community go through the ups and downs of self-worth to see if they are getting a nomination or an award to validate all of their hard work over the past 12 months.
Wishing all the Golden Globe  nominees a great Sunday night as well.  Past unforgettable Golden Globe Winners!
Meryl Streep, 1982 Golden Globe Best Actress winner
Sophie's Choice. Speaking of Meryl Streep and awards, Meryl Streep honors Debbie Reynolds at the 2015 Governors Awards.
Meryl Streep has said she has learned a thing or two about getting older in Hollywood and explained she will continue acting as long as "I keep getting a job."

I began in the cabaret community performing as, believe it or not, Judy Garland.
Trust me, I wouldn't have believed it either. There was a time in which I was going from showcase to showcase in New York TRYING to get my Equity card.
In those days, you could get one point for every week you worked in an Equity showcase. Once you got up to 52 points, you were automatically eligible for your Equity card. An Equity Card is proof of membership in the Actors' Equity Association of the United States or the British Equity.

I have worked with some amazing talents in
Linda Axelrod was just awarded the BEST JOAN RIVERS IMPERSONATOR of 2015

And the GigMasters Best of 2015 award goes to...
Linda Axelrod - Joan Rivers Impersonator And More
Congratulations!
this past year including Julie Budd.
I believe that ALL are worthy of many awards. I also have seen a LOT of shows this past year. Yesterday, Danny told us that our EZ Pass Bill for the George Washington Bridge was over $400.00. That is mostly for going to shows! Check out my monthly column in Cabaret Scenes to see what I have seen and what I recommend.
Arthur Rubeinstein
I saw the following on Facebook and wanted to share this with you: OBSCURE FACT OF THE DAY: On 1/8/1906, 19-yr-old, POLISH PIANO PLAYER, Arthur Rubenstein, made his debut at Carnegie Hall in NYC.
At the age of 2, he had demonstrated perfect pitch.
By 4, he was recognized as a child prodigy. At 7 he made his debut with pieces by Mozart, Schubert and Mendelssohn. AND NOW CARNEGIE HALL!
Unfortunately, the debut was a disaster. The critics were not kind. By 1908, he was destitute and desperate. He tried to DO HIMSELF IN in his hotel room in Berlin. Fortunately he failed to do so and instead moved to London…where they loved him.

FLASH FORWARD: By the time he died in 1982 at the age of 95, he was he was described by The New York Times as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. It had been nearly 8 decades since his Carnegie debut and the pain he felt, after the critics panned him, had been forgotten long ago.
All of these performances are meant to be experienced LIVE. I am seeing more and more shows promoting their performances through Concert Window. This is an aspect of my work that I, personally, would promote to those who are outside the tri-state area. GO SEE A LIVE SHOW!

Speaking of LIVE shows! A big shout out and Kudos to Seth Rudetsky for his show Disaster! Going to Broadway.  Yesterday, he posted on Playbill.com, from his diary about the process of putting on a Broadway Show.

And from Stephen Cole: Hey there...with 10 days to Merman's Apprentice at Birdland, I started a new blog...take a look and be entertained with the TEN GREATEST TV APPEARANCES OF ETHEL MERMAN!
Peter Filichia writes:
Let's all meet on January 18th at 7 p.m. at Birdland at 315 West 44th Street and enjoy MERMAN'S APPRENTICE. It's a terrific show, thanks to Stephen Cole's incisive book and hilarious lyrics and David Evans' toe-tapping music. Playing The Merm is no less than Klea Blackhurst, with Anita Gillette as her mother.

Merman's Apprentice was one of the best shows I saw this past year! Get your tickets TODAY and Go!
And from Tym Moss:
Check out my interviews with Rutanya Alda. (4 parts in total!)
Here, we talk about the making of Mommie Dearest. Rutanya Alda played Carol Ann in the film. The loyal secretary/assistant of Joan Crawford (played by Faye Dunaway) You can buy her book, Mommie Dearest Diary, here: http://amzn.to/1PT8Avx
Its a great read..
See the other 3 parts on YouTube..
In the early 1970s Hollywood actor Jerry Lewis started working on a Holocaust film so bizarre he ended up hiding all the footage and to this day it has never been seen. READ MORE HERE.

There’s no doubt that creative people are very different from others.
They seem to live on a different planet, in a whole other universe. Their striking inventiveness and originality keep raising a question of HOW. How on earth did they come up with that? They set out on a quest to learn what makes outside-the-box thinkers tick. And with the help of science they managed to establish few of the traits creative people tend to exhibit. At a busy party, where everyone is talking and having fun, you will find them huddled up in a corner, always writing, drawing, pondering. Read this article for MORE INFO. I was having dinner last night with a friend who was a star on Broadway in one of the most successful shows of all time. She has achieved some of the highest highs you could experience in this business and some of the lowest lows. Recently, she appeared gratis in a show that was for ONE NIGHT ONLY. She filled in at the last minute and a  cabaret "critic" gave her a less than favorable review.
Learn how to get started with meditation:

Throughout the more than 40 years Virgin has been in business we have been continuously striving – striving to deliver wonderful products and services, striving to make a positive difference, striving to change people’s life for the better.
Had we not kept striving, we certainly wouldn’t be where we are today. There can be no greatness without striving.
